Zambezi Campaign 23: Arab standard bearer

Here is the standard bearer for the Arab force, carrying the red flag of Zanzibar.  Zanzibar was part of the Sultanate of Oman which had flown the red flag since 1698.  When the independent Sultanate of Zanzibar was declared in 1856 the red flag was retained and remained the flag of the island state until November 1963.

Brilliant! My sort of standard, one colour no finials just 'follow me chaps!'

I came across your blog last night and have now read through the whole thing. I like your miniatures and the whole process you have going, starting with a mini-campaign, knowing what forces you need, etc. Nice to see the whole project coming together.

Reading through it all also reminded me of an old tv mini-series I saw years ago when I was a teenager. The series was called The Search for the Nile, see http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0068130/ and was one of the things hat got me interested in that era and area.
Also, last week at the bookstore I picked up a book called "Explorers of the Nile". It's by Tim Jeal and published in 2011, with an introduction by Mr. Jeal, also dated 2011. I wonder if it's an updated version of the work you mentioned in one of your earlier posts.
